I have to admit that I've seen the similarities, and it's made me terribly glad that I'm not particularly invested in any ship on LOST. Sawyer is being used and Kate is going to kick him to the curb for the sanctimonious Jack who is the "hero" but who really doesn't earn the title. But for Kate it's easy Jack = "good" Sawyer = shaggable but she's ashamed of him.
The first time they had sex I immediately saw the similarities. She's totally doing the same thing to him and he's so like Spike sometimes it's not funny. Yay she's not beating him up and he's not telling her to turn evil and this seems to be an enjoyable more guilt free experience, but still...you can see it.
